Just One Thing…

by Betsy Beers

unity handsEvery Christian is well acquainted with the Corinthian Church’s divisiveness, the members boasting that one was of Paul, one of Cephas, one of Apollos, and another of Christ.

Paul began his rebuke to them, “Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” 1 Corinthians 1:10

Stop right there.

Wow! That’s us! We do that. No further rebuke for My House Church.

• We speak the same thing.

• We have no divisions among us.

• We are in the same mind,

• We are in the same judgment.

Again and again, Paul’s perpetual pleading with the house churches: Unity.

Fulfill ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.” Philippians 2:2-4

Yes, We are doing it!

• We are likeminded.

• We have the same love.

• We are of one accord.

• We are of one mind.

• We do nothing through strife.

• We do nothing through vainglory (pride)

• We are lowly in mind.

• We esteem each other better than ourselves.

• We don’t only look on our own things.

• We look on the things of each other.

This was the secret to the success of the first house churches in Acts that made up the One Body through which the One Spirit worked so powerfully.

Harmonizing with these checklists should be the hallmark of our lives!

Our prayers will be answered so fast, it will make the world’s fat head spin.
